Open air fires temporarily prohibited in North Battleford area

Global News

NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. – A Saskatchewan fire department announced Monday that it is temporarily prohibiting open air fires in the North Battleford area.

Due to recent grassfires, the North Battleford Fire Department (NBFD) is banning residents within the rural municipality.

Until further notice, burning outside of an approved fire pit is prohibited.

During these dry and windy conditions, urban and rural residents are encouraged to make sure their properties are fire safe.

“Keep dry vegetation and combustibles away from buildings, be cautious with discarded smoking materials and please report suspicious activity or suspected fire starters to the RCMP,” said NBFD Chief Albert Headrick.

Headrick says legal fire pits are ok as long as extreme caution is used.

For more information contact the NBFD at 306-445-1770.
